Travel Book
European Commission / 2013
The European Commission's Directorate General for Regional Policy (DG REGIO) asked us to develop puzzle games based on the map of Europe. These tools are part of their "fun and education" series of events for the European youth.
The first game is a human-sized puzzle board used during events organised by the European Commission. The second game is a give away. The general purpose is to allow children and adolescents to gear up their knowledge of the European structure, historically and geopolitically.
We developed the large puzzle in noble and sustainable materials, and added a reference to the computer game Tetris by cutting the puzzle pieces into special shapes.
The give-away needed to reflect the mechanism of the puzzle. We wanted it to be useful and usable in the long term. We came up with the concept of the Travel Book, a 2-ring binder acting as a "travelogue" with personal notes describing experiences, friends and family when travelling across Europe. The Travel Book contains a series of repositionable stickers (made of YUPO TAKO, a 100% recyclable synthetic material). Each part of the Travel Book has its own purpose, while the cover is a fold-out poster with a map of Europe containing information on Europe's foundation and on today's Member States.
